
DALLAS, Dec. 31 (UPI) -- Loui Eriksson delivered a hat trick Thursday and the Dallas Stars broke the game open in the second period to defeat Anaheim 5-3.
Eriksson scored two of the four consecutive goals the Stars used to take a 5-2 into the game's final minutes.
Brad Richards also had a goal and two assists, helping the Stars earn at least one point for the 10th time in their last 11 home games. Marty Turco got the win by making 31 saves.
Saku Koivu had two goals for Anaheim, losers of three out of four. All five Dallas goals came against Jonas Hiller, who faced 47 shots.
Eriksson scored the game's first goal 6:16 into the opening period and he teamed with Robidas to produce goals 30 seconds apart in the second.
It was the second career hat trick for Eriksson.
