CALGARY, Alberta, Dec. 31 (UPI) -- Craig Conroy's first goal of the season gave Calgary the lead in the second period Wednesday and the Flames held on to defeat Los Angeles 2-1.

Conroy has played in 37 games this season, but he had just nine assists until producing a goal with 2:48 having gone by in the second. This is his 15th year in the NHL and he has scored at least a dozen goals in 10 of them.

Rene Bourque gave Calgary the lead on a tip-in 6:21 into the game and Scott Parse tied it just 15 seconds into the second period.

The lack of offense led to a fourth straight loss for the Kings, a skied that began in Calgary Dec. 17.

Miikka Kiprusoff got his 20th win by making 23 saves.

Los Angeles backup Erik Ersberg stopped 19-of-21 shots. He had allowed an average of 4.1 goals in his other three starts.
