SAN DIEGO, Dec. 30 (UPI) -- Zac Lee ran for the game's first touchdown and threw for the last one Wednesday, carrying Nebraska to a 33-0 blasting of Arizona in the Holiday Bowl.
The 33 points were the most No. 19 Nebraska had scored since September and left the Cornhuskers with a 10-4 record. Nebraska narrowly missed playing in a BCS bowl, having suffered a last-second loss to Texas in the Big 12 Conference championship game.
No. 23 Arizona (8-5) had ended the regular season with victories over Arizona State and USC.
Lee ran 4 yards for a score just 1:11 into the contest after Matt O'Hanlon intercepted a pass by Nick Foles and returned it 35 yards to the Arizona 6. Lee closed out the scoring by hitting Niles Paul with a 74-yard throw with 3:39 to play in the third period.
Alex Henery kicked four field goals -- one of them of 50 yards.
The Nebraska defense, led by star tackle Ndamukong Suh, held Arizona to 109 yards on 60 plays. Nebraska picked up 405 yards -- 232 of it on the ground. The Cornhuskers produced the first shutout in the 15 games played thus far in the bowl season.
Teams from the Pacific-10 Conference are 2-3 during the bowl season, with Stanford and Oregon still to make an appearance. The Big 12 is 1-1 and has six games remaining, including the national title contest that will send Texas against Alabama Jan. 7.
Three of the games involving Big 12 schools will be played Thursday -- Oklahoma vs. Stanford in the Sun Bowl, Missouri vs. Navy in the Texas Bowl and Iowa State vs. Minnesota in the Insight Bowl.
