
MADISON, Wis., Dec. 31 (UPI) -- Trevon Hughes's 16 points, seven rebounds and three assists Thursday led Wisconsin to a surprisingly easy 65-43 decision against 15th-ranked Ohio State.
The contest at the Kohl Center in Madison was the Big Ten Conference opener for both schools.
Wisconsin started the romp with Hughes's 3-pointer, which created a 7-7 tie with 16:22 left in the first half and ignited a 27-18 run that gave the Badgers a 34-25 halftime lead.
Wisconsin's largest lead was 24 points in the second half.
Jordan Taylor added 12 points and Jon Leuer had 11 for the Badgers (11-2, 1-0), who have won five in a row.
William Buford led OSU with 14 points and eight rebounds.
David Lighty, the only other player in double figures, scored 10 with five rebounds and three steals for the Buckeyes (10-3, 0-1), whose three-game winning streak ended.
