TEMPE, Ariz., Dec. 31 (UPI) -- Austen Arnaud accounted for two touchdowns late in the second period Thursday and Iowa State held on to down Minnesota 14-13 in the Insight Bowl.

In a game of squandered opportunities, the Cyclones posted the third bowl victory in school history. All of those wins came in the first decade of the 21st Century.

Iowa State finished the season at 7-6, its first winning campaign in four years.

Arnaud put the Cyclones in front for good with a 9-yard touchdown run with 4:35 to play in the first half. Iowa State survived a Minnesota scoring bid moments later when David Sims intercepted a pass by Adam Weber deep in Cyclones territory.

Arnaud then drove Iowa State 89 yards in six plays and hit Jake Williams with a 38-yard scoring pass that gave the Cyclones a 14-3 halftime lead.

Minnesota managed 10 points in the second half, but also missed a field goal and then fumbled the ball away at the Iowa State 16-yard line with 4 minutes to go. Iowa State was able to run out the clock and preserve the win.

Iowa State missed an excellent scoring chance in the first half when it failed to convert on a 4th-and-1 attempt at the Minnesota 26.

Minnesota closed out a 6-7 season and lost in a bowl game for the fourth time in a row.

Arnaud completed 19-of-26 passes for 217 yards. He was intercepted twice. Alexander Robinson failed to score, but he gained 139 yards on 22 carries.

Weber was 18-of-32 for 262 yards, a touchdown and an interception.
