UCLA rallies for bowl win over Temple

WASHINGTON, Dec. 29 (UPI) -- A 2-yard interception return by Akeem Ayers put UCLA ahead and the Bruins held on Tuesday for a 30-21 win over Temple in the EagleBank Bowl in Washington.

UCLA (7-6), which trailed by as many as 14 points in the first half, outscored the Owls 20-0 in the second half.

Ayers' touchdown, followed by a 2-point conversion, gave the Bruins a 28-21 lead with 6:01 remaining. They completed the scoring with a safety less than 2 minutes later.

Kevin Prince, who passed for 221 yards, had touchdown throws of 46 yards to Nelson Rosario and 32 yards to Terrence Austin, and Kai Forbath kicked field goals of 40 and 42 yards for UCLA.

Temple (9-4) scored on an 11-yard run by Bernard Pierce, a 2-yard run by Matt Brown and Vaughn Charlton's 26-yard pass to Steve Maneri.


Knicks' Robinson fined $25,000

NEW YORK, Dec. 29 (UPI) -- Nate Robinson's agent has cost the New York Knicks guard $25,000 for making trade comments the NBA deemed detrimental to the league.

The NBA fined Robinson for trade request comments Aaron Goodwin made Dec. 19. Robinson has been benched by Knicks Coach Mike D'Antoni for the last dozen games.

Stephen Jackson of the Golden State Warriors was fined $25,000 previously this season for similar comments prior to being dealt to Charlotte.


Rockets confirm they may trade McGrady

HOUSTON, Dec. 29 (UPI) -- The Houston Rockets have "agreed to look into trade opportunities" for disgruntled guard Tracy McGrady, General Manager Daryl Morey said Tuesday.

McGrady has expressed displeasure with his limited playing time this season. The seven-time all-star has averaged 7 1/2 minutes per game since returning from knee surgery this month.

"After multiple conversations with Tracy and his representatives, we have agreed to look into trade opportunities and have granted him an indefinite leave from team activities," Morey said, confirming reports the team would try to trade McGrady.

The 30-yard-old McGrady, a two-time NBA scoring champion, began his leave of absence during the weekend.

McGrady has averaged 21.9 points, 6.1 rebounds and 4.7 assists in 790 games with the Toronto Raptors, Orlando Magic and Houston.


Skate champ Yagudin sues asset manager

BROOKLYN, N.Y., Dec. 29 (UPI) -- Russian Olympic figure skating champion Alexei Yagudin alleges his former "asset manager" embezzled $1.1 million from him, New York court documents reveal.

Yagudin, who won a gold medal in 2002 in Salt Lake City, as well as four World Championships, alleges in a suit filed in U.S. District Court in New York that Michael Goldin has been embezzling money from him since 2003, the New York Post reported Tuesday.

The documents indicate Yagudin claims Goldin told him he'd invested the money in Florida real estate, but the skater claims he never did.

The Post said Goldin, an auto-shop owner, did not return its calls for comment.
