Vikings' Asher Allen retires at age 24

SAN JOSE, Calif., Dec. 29 (UPI) -- Joe Pavelski scored a goal in regulation and then fired in the winner in a shootout Monday to lead the San Jose Sharks to a 3-2 win over Phoenix.
Evgeni Nabokov had 31 saves and Devin Setoguchi scored a goal for the Sharks, who won their fifth straight game while stopping a three-game Phoenix winning streak.
Shane Doan and Petr Prucha scored goals and Ilya Bryzgalov was 36-for-38 in regulation for the Coyotes.
The Sharks led 2-0 on Setoguchi's 10th goal of the season at 2:54 of the first period and Pavelski's short-handed goal at 5:17 of the second. Phoenix came back with two second-period goals -- Prucha's seventh goal of the season at 9:20 and a goal by Doan at 18:22 of the second.
