Vikings' Asher Allen retires at age 24
CHAPEL HILL, N.C., Dec. 28 (UPI) -- Dexter Strickland tallied 18 points for No. 9 North Carolina Monday in an 81-67 Tar Heels' win over the Rutgers Scarlet Knights.
Smith also was credited with four assists. Deon Thompson scored 14 points and Ed Davis had 11 for North Carolina (10-3), which has won three of its last four games.
The Tar Heels played without swingman Marcus Ginyard, who was out with a sprained ankle.
Rutgers (9-3) was led by Mike Rosario with 22 points.
The Knights had won their previous six contests.
