RALEIGH, N.C., Dec. 27 (UPI) -- Danny Briere scored in the first round of Saturday's shootout to give Philadelphia a 4-3 win over the Carolina Hurricanes.

Mike Richards also scored during the shootout that salvaged the win for the Flyers after they had blown a three-goal lead in the third period.

Briere and Richards also scored in regulation for Philadelphia, as did Jeff Carter. Michael Leighton made 37 saves.

Jussi Jokinen scored twice for Carolina in regulation but was turned away in the shootout by Leighton. Brandon Sutter added a goal and Cam Ward made 33 saves.

Philadelphia built up a 3-0 lead with 11 minutes to play in regulation. But Carolina came back and tied it with less than a minute left when Jokinen tapped in a loose puck for his second goal.
