HONOLULU, Dec. 25 (UPI) -- Kyle Padron passed for two touchdowns and a school-record 460 yards Wednesday in SMU's 45-10 win over Nevada in the Hawaii Bowl.
Padrom was 32-of-41 passing. Aldrick Robinson caught nine passes for 176 yards, Emmanuel Sanders caught seven for 124 yards and a score, and Shawnbrey McNeal rushed for 63 yards and three touchdowns on 12 carries for the Mustangs (8-5) -- who made their first bowl appearance since 1984.
SMU received the NCAA "death penalty" in 1985, shut down the football program in 1987 and did not resume play until 1989. The Mustangs went 1-11 in 2008 before turning things around this season.
Colin Kaepernick was 15-of-29 passing for 177 yards, one touchdown and one interception for the Wolf Pack, (8-5), who lost their fourth straight bowl contest.
Nevada was the heavy favorite, carrying a 40-point per game average into the contest and having won eight straight before losing to Boise State in the final game of the regular season.
