PASADENA, Calif., Dec. 24 (UPI) -- Four Ohio State players and one Oregon player will miss the Rose Bowl on New Year's Day.

OSU Coach Jim Tressel disclosed on his weekly radio show Wednesday that receiver Ray Small and backup defensive lineman Bob Rose will sit out the bowl game for violating team rules. He didn't reveal what the two seniors did to get so seriously in his dog house.

Freshman OSU receiver Duron Carter was suspended last week, reportedly for academic reasons, and sophomore walk-on running back Bo DeLande also has been ruled out of the game.

Junior Oregon receiver Jamere Holland was ruled academically ineligible for the game. Holland was fifth on the team with 13 receptions for 199 yards and two touchdowns this season.

Small is the Buckeyes' third-leading receiver this season with 15 catches for 175 yards and leads the team in kick returns. He has averaged 27 yards with one touchdown on 12 kickoff returns and has averaged 8.3 yards on 33 punt returns.

Rose has two sacks and 10 tackles this season.
