NHL: Chicago 3, Detroit 0

DETROIT, Dec. 23 (UPI) -- Antti Niemi made 33 saves to collect his fourth career shutout in just 13 appearances this season Wednesday in Chicago's 3-0 blanking of Detroit.

Detroit suffered its second consecutive 3-0 loss to Chicago, having been shut out by the Blackhawks Sunday. The Red Wings, whose most recent goal came Saturday in the second period of a 4-3 loss to Dallas, saw their scoreless streak reach 155 minutes, 16 seconds.

Chicago has won five of its last six, four of the victories coming on shutouts. In between the blankings of Detroit, the Blackhawks lost to San Jose Tuesday.

Patrick Kane opened the scoring with a power-play goal 30 seconds into the second period. Patrick Sharp and Jonathan Toews both produced their 11th goals of the season in the third.

Niemi, backup to Cristobal Huet, made his 10th start of the season. He appeared in three games during his rookie campaign of 2008-09.
