
ATLANTA, Dec. 19 (UPI) -- Dean McAmmond scored two goals for the red-hot New Jersey Devils, who topped Atlanta 5-4 Saturday to win for the eighth time in their last nine games.
Rod Pelley, Bran Rolston and Rob Niedermayer also scored for the Devils in their fourth consecutive victory.
Pavel Kubina and Nik Antropov each had a goal and an assist for the Thrashers, who had won three of their last four coming into the contest.
The game started well for Atlanta, which took a 3-1 lead after one period and chased the Devils' star goalie Martin Brodeur after he faced just six shots. Yann Danis played the next two periods and stopped 19-of-20 shots.
New Jersey bounced back with three goals in the second period to take a 4-1 lead and then traded single goals with Atlanta in the third.
