Jahvid Best to miss Cal's bowl game

BERKELEY, Calif., Dec. 17 (UPI) -- Cal tailback Jahvid Best will not play in Wednesday's Poinsettia Bowl in San Diego because he's still recovering from a concussion, Coach Jeff Tedford said.

The standout, 5-foot-10, 195-pound junior from Vallejo, Calif., suffered the injury when he landed hard in the end zone after a 7-yard touchdown run Nov. 7 against Oregon State.

The injury also sidelined him for the Bears' last three regular-season contests

Given how long Best has been out, Tedford said there's not enough time to get him game-ready before Wednesday's contest against Utah.

Best finishes the season with 867 yards rushing on 141 carries, scoring 16 touchdowns -- 12 rushing and four receiving.

The Contra Costa Times reported Thursday Best has submitted paperwork to enter the 2010 NFL draft.
