
SAN FRANCISCO, Dec. 15 (UPI) -- Alex Smith tossed two touchdown passes and Frank Gore ran for 167 yards and a score Monday, carrying the San Francisco 49ers to a 24-9 win over Arizona.
The 49ers spoiled the Cardinals' attempt to clinch the title in the NFC West. Arizona is 8-5, leading 6-7 San Francisco by two games with three to play.
Smith connected on 19-of-35 passes for 144 yards, with a TD throws of 5 yards to Vernon Davis and 35 to Michael Crabtree.
Gore scored on a 2-yard run and Joe Nedney kicked a 37-yard field goal.
San Francisco's defense kept the Cardinals scoreless until late in the third quarter, picked off two passes by Kurt Warner and sacked him four times. The 49ers Dashon Goldson intercepted a pass and forced two fumbles.
Arizona scored on a 1-yard run by Beanie Wells and a 48-yard Neil Rackers field goal.
Warner completed 16-of-29 passes for 178 yards.
