Vikings' Asher Allen retires at age 24

NEW YORK, Dec. 14 (UPI) -- Ilya Kovalchuk and Slava Kozlov scored in a shootout and Atlanta got a 3-2 win Monday over the New York Rangers, who have lost seven of their last eight games.
Johan Hedberg made 46 saves for Atlanta.
Kovalchuk and Kozlov beat New York goalie Henrik Lundqvist while Hedberg held off the Rangers in the shootout.
Kozlov and Colby Armstrong scored for Atlanta in regulation.
Marian Gaborik and Ryan Callahan tallied for the Rangers, whose recent slide includes four straight defeats.
Lundqvist ended up with 25 saves.
