
GLENDALE, Ariz., Dec. 13 (UPI) -- Ilya Bryzgalov faced 38 shots while shutting down San Jose and leading the Phoenix Coyotes to an impressive 2-1 win over the slumping Sharks.
Radim Vrbata and Robert Lang scored for Phoenix, who have won six of their last seven games.
Dany Heatley scored the lone goal for the Sharks, who lead the Pacific Division but have lost five consecutive games. Thomas Greiss came up on the short end of an impressive 33-save performance.
The Coyotes jumped to a 2-0 lead with goals less than 2 minutes apart in the second period. Vrbata scored a power-play goal at 3:40 to open the scoring. Lang followed at 5:15 with a wrist shot that made it 2-0.
Heatley put San Jose on the board with 5:21 left in the game on a power-play slap shot. Bryzgalov was otherwise flawless in the final period, in which the Sharks outshot host Phoenix 18-11.
