NHL: Dallas 3, San Jose 2 (SO)

SAN JOSE, Calif., Dec. 12 (UPI) -- Matt Niskanen scored in the 10th round of the shootout Friday to give Dallas a 3-2 victory over San Jose.

Both sides had one goal during the first three shootout rounds and then traded miss after miss until Niskanen finally produced the goal that won it. Torrey Mitchell had a chance to keep things going for San Jose, but he was turned aside by Marty Turco.

San Jose, owners of the best record in the Western Conference, has lost four in a row.

Dallas went into either overtime or a shootout for the 13th time this season and has won only four of those contests. The nine overtime losses are tied with Tampa Bay for the most in the NHL.

San Jose took a 2-1 lead late in the first period and it remained that way until Brad Richards scored with 9:18 remaining in the third.

Turco made 33 saves and Evgeny Nabokov stopped 42 shots for the Sharks.
