NHL: New Jersey 4, Detroit 3 (SO)

NEWARK, N.J., Dec. 5 (UPI) -- Martin Brodeur made 28 saves and Patrik Elias scored the game-winner Saturday in New Jersey's 4-3 shootout win over the Detroit Red Wings.

Elias slipped a low backhander past prone Detroit goalie Chris Osgood in the fourth round of the shootout to give New Jersey its fifth win in its last six tries.

The Devils had goals in regulation from Jamie Langenbrunner, Rob Niedermayer and Johnny Oduya.

Patrick Eaves had a goal and an assist for Detroit. His tip-in of a Justin Abdelkader pass at 9:30 of the third period tied the game 3-3.

Kris Draper and Tomas Holmstrom also scored in regulation for the slumping Red Wings, who have lost five of seven. Osgood made 23 saves.
