LAWRENCE, Kan., Dec. 4 (UPI) -- Kansas University wide receiver Dezmon Briscoe said Friday he would forgo his senior season at Lawrence to enter the 2009 NFL draft this spring.
The 6-foot-3, 202-pound junior from Dallas was the nation's fifth-leading receiver this season, catching 84 passes for 1,337 yards with nine touchdowns. He is the school's all-time receiving yardage leader with 3,240, fourth in Big 12 Conference history.
Briscoe's announcement came the day after KU Coach Mark Mangino and the school reached an agreement for him to resign as coach amid allegations he was abusive to his players.
"I sat down before the Missouri game, talked to my mom and Monday I sat down and talked to Mangino and some of the coaching staff and came to the decision that I am going to declare this year," Briscoe said on the school's Web site. "I want to thank the University of Kansas for the opportunity to play for their football team."
Briscoe also holds KU's single-game yardage record (269 at Oklahoma in 2008).
