CNN suspends Martin for Super Bowl tweets
JERUSALEM, Dec. 3 (UPI) -- Zinedine Zidane, a retired international soccer player, says he will visit the Gaza Strip in March to promote peace in the Middle East.
Zidane, appointed a goodwill ambassador for the U.N. Children's Fund, said he is looking forward to the trip, Ynetnews.com said.
The 37-year-old French Muslim said he will make every effort to give Gaza residents a reason to smile, the site quoted him as saying.
"Gazans have suffered serious losses, damage and injuries due to Israeli acts of violence," the site quoted the former Real Madrid player as saying.
Zidane who was named the European player of the year in 1998, retired from professional soccer after the 2006 FIFA World Cup.
