THOUSAND OAKS, Calif., Dec. 3 (UPI) -- Ian Poulter, despite suffering a double bogey on the final hole, grabbed a share of the lead Thursday after the opening round of the Chevron World Challenge.

Poulter shot a 4-under 68 at the Sherwood Country Club to tie Zach Johnson for the top spot.

Padraig Harrington was alone in third at 69. British Open winner Stewart Cink, PGA Championship titleholder Y.E. Yang and Jim Furyk were all at 70.

Tournament host Tiger Woods withdrew after suffering injuries in the automobile accident that has recently opened his private life to scrutiny.

Steve Stricker, who finished second in this event a year ago, shot a 71 and was tied for seventh with Lee Westwood, Graeme McDowell, Sean O'Hair and Anthony Kim.
