SUNRISE, Fla., Dec. 3 (UPI) -- Stephen Weiss turned in the second hat trick of his career and then scored in the fifth round of the shootout Wednesday to give Florida a 6-5 win over Colorado.
Colorado scored twice in the final minute of regulation to force overtime, but the Panthers came back to halt a five-game losing streak.
Florida defenseman Keith Ballard, who accidentally hit his own goaltender on the side of the helmet last Monday, injured another goaltender Wednesday.
This time, Ballard slipped while heading to the net and slammed into Colorado's Craig Anderson with 42 seconds left in the 5-minute overtime period. Anderson was shaken up on the collision and Colorado defenseman Adam Foote promptly hit Ballard, drawing a penalty for doing so.
Peter Budaj took over in goal for Colorado and remained there during the shootout.
