EDMONTON, Alberta, Nov. 28 (UPI) -- Joe Pavelski scored the only goal in the shootout Friday and Patrick Marleau had a hat trick in bringing San Jose a 5-4 victory over Edmonton.
Pavelski was the second shooter in the second round and beat Jeff Deslauriers with a wrist shot just inside the left post.
Dustin Penner then tried to keep things going for Edmonton, but Evgeni Nabokov made a sliding save to end the game.
Both teams scored three goals in the third period, the last of them coming from Marleau with 1:06 remaining. Marleau also produced the game's first goal and scored the first of three San Jose managed in the third.
Nabokov made 29 saves to pick up his 15th win of the season, tops in the NHL.
Marleau's last hat trick had come in a 7-3 win over Los Angeles in November 2006.
