
PORTLAND, Ore., Nov. 28 (UPI) -- Zach Randolph sparked Memphis to a big lead Friday and the Grizzlies held on to defeat Portland 106-96.
Memphis won on the road for just the second time in nine tries this season.
The Grizzlies opened as much as a 29-point cushion thanks in large part to an 18-0 run that closed the opening period.
Randolph scored 21 points and Marc Gasol contributed 19 points and 15 rebounds for Memphis, which had lost its eight previous meetings with Portland.
Portland, which had won two of its last three games, got 26 points from Brandon Roy.
Memphis held a 59-30 lead in the second quarter, although Portland ended the first half with seven straight points to get within 61-39 at the break.
Memphis shot 53.8 percent from the floor. The Grizzlies had not defeated Portland since March 29, 2007.
