UNIONDALE, N.Y., Nov. 27 (UPI) -- John Tavares' tap-in late in the third period Friday lifted the New York Islander's to a 3-2 win over the Pittsburgh Penguins.

The Islanders opened the scoring with a first-period goal by Josh Bailey, only to see Evgeni Malkin tie it before the end of the period, and the Penguins went up 2-1 in the second period when Matt Cooke batted in a rebound of a shot by Jordan Staal.

New York evened the score with a goal by Sean Bergenheim, who took a pass from Frans Nielsen and sent a wrister just inside the far post 1:24 into the third.

Dwayne Roloson made 19 saves for New York, which has split its last six games.
