SHENZHEN, China, Nov. 27 (UPI) -- Rory McIlroy and Graeme McDowell shot a combined 4-under-par 68 Friday, helping Northern Ireland maintain its three-stroke lead at the World Cup of Golf.
After two rounds at the Mission Hills Golf Club in Shenzhen, China, they are 18-under 126. The Northern Ireland tandem opened with a 14-under 58 during Thursday's four-ball format, but cooled off during Friday's alternate-shot format.
The four-ball format featured each team member playing his own ball and the lowest score on each hole was counted.
"Foursomes is a little trickier than the four-ball," McIroy said. "(But) we played very solidly and we still have a three shot lead, so it was a good day."
Sweden's Robert Karlsson and Henrik Stenson, the winning duo in 2007, shot 7-under 65 Friday and are15-under 129, alone in second place.
Italy's Edoardo and Francesco Molinari (66) are third at 14-under 130.
