NEW YORK, Nov. 27 (UPI) -- Jon Scheyer's 19 points Friday led seventh-ranked Duke to a 68-59 win over No. 13 Connecticut and the title at New York's NIT Pre-Season-Tip Off.

The senior shooting guard from Northbrook, Ill., playing a huge floor game, added four rebounds, five assists and three steals.

Duke built a 37-28 halftime lead and kept UConn at bay as the Huskies made just 15-of-28 free throws and could not forge a consistent comeback.

Nolan Smith scored 16 with four rebounds and Lance Thomas 11 with 10 rebounds, while Andre Dawkins added 11 points and three rebounds for the Blue Devils (6-0), who had a 45-39 rebounding edge against the bigger Huskies.

Jerome Dyson led Connecticut with 15 points and five rebounds.

Gavin Edwards had 12 points, five rebounds and two of 10 blocked shots, and Stanley Robinson had 10 points with four rebounds for the Huskies (4-1), who committed 17 turnovers.
