BOSTON, Nov. 25 (UPI) -- The Boston Red Sox will make a serious run at signing free-agent, right-hander Roy Halladay, the New York Daily News and ESPNBoston.com reported.
Halladay, a six-time American League All-Star, has been the ace of the Toronto Blue Jays staff for his 12-year major league career. But after saying he wanted to stay in Toronto at 2009's trading deadline, he said recently he wants to play for a winning team.
His addition would give Boston an impressive first-line trio of starting pitchers, with Jon Lester and Josh Beckett.
The Daily News report said the Red Sox likely would have to give up either young right-hander Clay Buchholz, who already has thrown a no-hitter, or shortstop Casey Kelly, a prized minor-leaguer.
The Blue Jays went 75-87 last season, 28 games behind the American League East-winning New York Yankees, the World Series champions.
