WASHINGTON, Nov. 25 (UPI) -- Semyon Varlamov recorded his first career shutout Wednesday, backstopping Washington's 2-0 win over Buffalo that snapped a three-game losing streak.
Varlamov repelled a 10-shot Buffalo third-period barrage and finished with 25 saves overall.
Alexander Ovechkin scored his 17th goal this season at 6:24 of the first period, but later was ejected following a game misconduct penalty at 16:22 of the third, the second ejection in his career.
Eric Fehr also scored for the Capitals, who had lost four of five.
They rose to 8-0-3 this season when Ovechkin scores a goal.
Ryan Miller gave up two goals on 24 shots for the Sabres, who have lost four in a row.
On the power play, neither club scored on three combined chances.
There was a moment of silence before the game, honoring former Caps' owner Abe Pollin, who died Tuesday from a rare brain disease.
