YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio, Nov. 22 (UPI) -- Jon Heacock, Youngstown State football coach for nine seasons, won't coach the team next year, the school announced Sunday.

A search for a new coach begins immediately, a report on the university Web site said.

Heacock's teams had a 60-44 record, including 6-5 this season.

"I would want Jon, as well as our fans and supporters, to know that we appreciate the tremendous challenges and expectations of being the head football coach at Youngstown State," Athletic Director Ron Strollo said. "He fulfilled those duties in a manner that would make every Penguin fan proud."

The Penguins won two Missouri Valley Conference titles under Heacock.
