Peter Senior wins in Champions qualifying

SCOTTSDALE, Ariz., Nov. 20 (UPI) -- Peter Senior birdied five of the last nine holes Friday and rallied to win the Champions Tour Qualifying Tournament by three shots.

Senior shot a 5-under-par 66 at the TPC-Scottsdale course for a 72-hole total of 17-under 267.

He joined Steve Haskins, Joe Ozaki, Ronnie Black and amateur Jim Roy in winning fully exempt status on the Champions Tour for 2010.

Haskins, who led after the second and third rounds, stumbled to a 3-over 74. Nevertheless, he shared second place with Ozaki and Black at 270.

Roy tied Bruce Vaughan and Kirk Hanefeld for fifth place at 272. Because only the Top 5 in the event earned spots on the Champions Tour for next year, those three had to take part in a sudden death playoff to determine fifth place.

Roy made a 6-foot birdie putt on the first playoff hole to capture the final available spot.
