HOUSTON, Nov. 18 (UPI) -- The LPGA Wednesday released its 2010 schedule, a slate that is three tournaments shorter than this year's calendar.
LPGA Acting Commissioner Marty Evans released next year's schedule ahead of this week's LPGA Tour Championship. The LPGA will conduct 24 tournaments in 10 countries next year. The tour had 27 tournaments in 2009.
The cutbacks reflect poor economic conditions for tournament sponsors.
The LPGA will open next year's schedule Feb. 18 at the Honda LPGA Thailand with the first tournament in the United States set for March 25 when the LPGA Classic will be contested in California.
The first major of 2010 is the Kraft Nabisco Championship, April 1-4 in Mission Hills, Calif. The second major -- the June 24-27 LPGA Championship -- has a new sponsor in Wegmans. That event will be in Rochester, N.Y.
The U.S. Women's Open will be July 8-11 at Oakmont, Pa., and the Women's British Open will be at Royal Birkdale in South Port, England, beginning July 29.
The 2010 LPGA calendar ends with the LPGA Tour Championship Nov. 18-21.
