Vikings' Asher Allen retires at age 24
ST. LOUIS, Nov. 17 (UPI) -- Reginald Delk scored 20 points, including a 3-pointer during a key 16-5 first-half run, to lead No. 22 Louisville to a 96-66 win over Arkansas Tuesday.
Samardo Samuels had 17 points while Jerry Smith added 14 for Louisville (1-0). Head Coach Rick Pitino moved from a tumultuous off-season personally into a promising on-court start for the Cardinals, who posted a 16-2 Big East conference record last season.
Arkansas (1-1) was led by Rotnei Clarke, who hit for 16 points, while Marshawn Powell chipped in with 15 in the loss.
The Cardinals put the game away late in the first half when 3-pointers by Delk, Edgar Sosa and Jared Swopshire added up to a 16-5 run and a 43-29 Louisville lead with 1:50 remaining in the first half.
After the Razorbacks pulled to within 48-45 by scoring 14 straight points to start the second half, the Cardinals responded with a 29-8 spurt over the next 6 minutes to reassert control.
