WASHINGTON, Nov. 17 (UPI) -- Greg Monroe's layup 6.5 seconds before the final buzzer boosted No. 20 Georgetown to a 46-45 win over Temple Tuesday.
Monroe's late bucket followed a pair of key free throws by Chris Wright and enabled the Hoyas (2-0) to erase a late three-point deficit and claim the win.
After Monroe's score, Georgetown's tough defense forced a jump ball when Temple's Luis Guzman was tied up under the Hoyas' net with 2 seconds to go. Georgetown got the ball on the possession, forcing the Owls to foul Monroe with 0.3 seconds left. Monroe missed both shots but Temple (1-1) was out of time.
Wright led all scorers with 15 points, while Monroe added 11 and pulled down nine rebounds for Georgetown.
Temple was led by Lavoy Allen with 12 points and 14 rebounds. Ramone Moore scored eight points off the bench for the Owls.
