MELBOURNE, Nov. 15 (UPI) -- Tiger Woods, playing in his first tournament in Australia in 12 years, used a 4-under-par 68 Sunday to pull away and win the JBWere Masters.
Woods had five birdies and a bogey in the final round and won his 98th overall professional tournament by two strokes, finishing at 14-under-274. He'd been enticed to Melbourne with a $3 million appearance fee and also collected the tournament's first-place prize of $250,000 to go with a globe-shaped trophy.
"I got a 'W.' That was the goal this week," Woods said after claiming his seventh victory of the year, the first six coming on the PGA Tour.
"This has been absolutely phenomenal. I'm sorry it took me so long to get back."
Greg Chalmers shot 70 Sunday and finished in second place, two strokes behind Woods, and Jason Dufner and Francois Delamontagne tied for third at 10-under 278.
Woods led or shared the lead after each round of the tournament. After starting the Sunday with a birdie at No. 1, he separated himself from the field with birdies at Nos. 5-6 when he put approaches on both holes within 6 feet.
Woods had another birdie at the 12th hole but bogeyed the 13th. He got that shot back at the par-3 15th hole.
