DURHAM, N.C., Nov. 12 (UPI) -- Duke Coach Mike Krzyzewski announced Thursday freshman forward Mason Plumlee would be sidelined indefinitely with a fractured left wrist.
The standout recruit suffered the injury during practice Wednesday.
Krzyzewski said no surgery would be required and that Plumlee would be evaluated weekly by the school's medical staff.
"Mason took a hard fall in practice on Wednesday that resulted in the wrist injury," Krzyzewski said. "It was an unfortunate play, but we are confident that he will make a full recovery. Mason is going to be a very good player for us and we look forward to him getting healthy and returning to the court."
Plumlee played high school basketball in Arden, N.C. He averaged 13.5 points and 10.1 rebounds as a senior for Christ School. Over three seasons, he led the team to three state titles and a 99-8 record.
Duke begins its season Friday against North Carolina-Greensboro.
