ATLANTA, Nov. 12 (UPI) -- Veteran Atlanta Braves right-hander Tim Hudson has signed a three-year contract extension with a club signing option for 2013.
No dollar figure was disclosed by the National League team, but The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported Hudson will make almost $9 million a year.
Hudson, 34, was a major surprise for the Braves' 2009 rotation following reconstructive Tommy John elbow surgery in August 2008. He was 2-1 with a 3.61 ERA with 13 walks and 30 strikeouts in seven starts (42 1/3 innings).
"Their opening offer to me was more than fair," Hudson said on the Braves' Web site Thursday. "That showed me that they were really wanting to get something done. It didn't take too long to agree on something."
"I think it's a testament to how much Tim loves this organization and enjoys playing here," said General Manager Frank Wren.
His career record is 148-78 in 310 starts with Oakland and the Braves.
