SAN ANTONIO, Nov. 11 (UPI) -- Richard Jefferson made up for the absence of two key players by scoring a season-best 29 points Wednesday, pushing San Antonio to a 92-83 win over Dallas.
Both Tim Duncan and Tony Parker missed the game with ankle injuries but Jefferson came through with a big night that included four assists and three steals.
San Antonio built a 15-point lead through three periods and held on despite making just 4-of-17 from the field in the fourth quarter.
It was the first meeting of the Spurs and Mavericks since Dallas eliminated San Antonio in five games to open last season's playoffs.
The Mavericks, who had won their previous two games, were led by Dirk Nowitzki with 29 points and 12 rebounds. Jason Terry added 19 points off the bench.
Dallas cut its deficit to 83-79 with 4:12 remaining thanks to an 11-1 run but Matt Bonner ended the comeback bid with a 3-pointer. Dallas came no closer than five the rest of the game.
