BOSTON, Nov. 10 (UPI) -- Tim Thomas stopped 27 shots Tuesday, notching his 14th career shutout in leading the Boston Bruins to a 3-0 win over the Pittsburgh Penguins.
Thomas came up big late in the game, making 12 of his saves in the final period as Matt Hunwick and Daniel Paille scored for the Bruins, who won their second straight game.
Patrice Bergeron's empty-netter gave Boston its final 3-0 margin.
The Penguins lost for the third straight game, the first time that has happened since Dan Bylsma took over as coach last year. Marc-Andre Fleury stopped 26 shots for Pittsburgh.
Paille's goal 3:34 into the final period was the backbreaker for Boston. Mark Recchi's pass from the right half-wall found Paille, who was sprung on a clear breakaway, and flicked a wrister from in close beat to beat Fleury's glove and give the Bruins a 2-0 lead.
