Series hero Matsui files for free agency

NEW YORK, Nov. 9 (UPI) -- World Series MVP Hideki Matsui and Johnny Damon of the New York Yankees filed for free agency Monday, along with 29 other major-leaguers.

Matsui, 35, who drove in six runs in the Yankees' Game 6 World Series clincher against the Philadelphia Phillies, and Damon were in the final year of four-year contracts.

Others filing included Pedro Feliz, who played third base for Philadelphia; reliever Chan Ho Park of the Phillies; outfielder Coco Crisp of the Kansas City Royals; reliever Brandon Lyon of the Detroit Tigers; outfielder Gary Sheffield of the New York Mets; and shortstop Orlando Cabrera of the Minnesota Twins.

One-hundred-fifty-one players have now filed for free agency.
