ARCADIA, Calif., Nov. 7 (UPI) -- Pounced got the best of a frantic stretch run to win Saturday's $1 million Breeders' Cup Juvenile Turf by three-quarters of a length over Bridgetown.

Interactif was another head back in third in the 1-mile event, which kicked off the climactic day of the Breeders' Cup World Championships at Santa Anita.

Jockey Frankie Dettori kept Pounced on the rail and well within striking distance of a relatively slow early pace, saving his Kentucky-bred Rahy colt for the final furlong. Bridgetown surged to the lead early in the stretch run and appeared to have the race in hand but Pounced ran him down.

Pounced ran the mile on firm turf in 1:35.47.

Pounced, owned by Lady Serena Rothschild and trained by John Gosden, ran twice in England before finishing second in a Group 1 event at Longchamp in Paris in his last start.

The second- and third-place finishers prepped in the United States. Awesome Act, who got home fourth, came from England.
