CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va., Nov. 7 (UPI) -- Virginia Cavaliers basketball Coach Tony Bennett says he has suspended center Assane Sene for the first three games of the upcoming season.
The 7-foot sophomore will miss the team's closed scrimmage Sunday and the first three regular-season games for conduct detrimental to the team, Bennett said. Sene will be allowed to practice with the team during his suspension.
"We have expectations for the individuals in our program that Assane has not met," he said. "My hope is Assane will learn from this situation as we move forward."
Sene averaged 2.5 points and 4.6 rebounds as a freshman and led the team with 35 blocked shots.
The Cavs' first three games are with Longwood Nov. 13, at South Florida Nov. 16 and at home against Rider Nov. 19.
