PALO ALTO, Calif., Nov. 7 (UPI) -- Unranked Stanford got a school-record, 223-yard rushing performance from Toby Gerhart and went on to shock No. 8 Oregon 51-42 Saturday.
The Cardinal became bowl-eligible with the win, which raised their record to 5-2 in the Pac 10 and 6-3 overall. They led 17-7 after the first quarter and 31-14 at the half as Gerhart ran the ball 38 times to pass Jon Volpe's 1988 Stanford record of 220 rushing yards in a game.
Oregon fell to 5-1 in the conference and 7-2 overall.
Stanford quarterback Andrew Luck completed 12-of-20 passes for 251 yards with a pair of touchdowns. Chris Owusu caught four passes for 111 yards with a touchdown.
Oregon QB Jeremiah Masoli (334 yards) connected with D.J. Davis on a 21-yard touchdown with 2:38 left to pull the Ducks to within six points. But Oregon lost the subsequent onside kick and Nate Whitaker iced it for the Cardinal with a 48-yard field goal with 11 seconds left.
