IOWA CITY, Iowa, Nov. 7 (UPI) -- Marshall Thomas covered a fumble in the end zone Saturday, setting off a Northwestern rally that ended in a 17-10 upset of previously unbeaten No. 6 Iowa.

Iowa was ahead 10-0 in the second quarter when starting quarterback Rick Stanzi fumbled in the end zone and Thomas was recovered it for the first Northwestern touchdown.

Stanzi was injured on the play and didn't return the rest of the game. Iowa didn't manage another point and fell to 9-1 overall and 5-1 in the Big Ten.

Northwestern (6-4, 3-3) added a Dan Persa-to-James Vanderberg touchdown pass later in the period to take the lead. That score was set up by an interception from the Wildcat defense.

A 47-yard ,second-half field goal by Northwestern completed the scoring.
