TUSCALOOSA, Ala., Nov. 7 (UPI) -- No. 3 Alabama scored 14 fourth-quarter points to down No. 9 LSU 24-15 Saturday in a comeback win to clinch the SEC Western Division title.
Greg McElroy connected with Julio Jones on a 73-yard touchdown with 10:24 left in the game, and running back Trent Richardson ran in the two-point conversion to give the undefeated Crimson Tide (6-0 SEC, 9-0 overall) a 21-15 lead they would never relinquish.
Leigh Tiffin made all three of his field goal attempts, including a 40-yarder with 3:04 left to make it a two-possession game at 24-15. LSU was unable to stop the clock down the stretch as the Tigers fell to 4-2 in the SEC and 7-2 overall.
Alabama got a fine performance from Mark Ingram, who gained 145 yards on 22 carries to help compensate for McElroy's somewhat erratic play, especially in the first half. McElroy completed 19-of 34 passes for 276 yards with an interception.
Jarrett Lee replaced injured LSU quarterback Jordan Jefferson for most of the second half and completed 4-of-10 for 44 yards, but thew an interception on the Tigers' final possession.
