ARCADIA, Calif., Nov. 6 (UPI) -- Informed Decision held off odds-on favorite and defending champion Ventura down the stretch Friday, winning the Sentient Jet Breeders' Cup Filly & Mare Sprint.

Informed Decision outran Ventura by 1 1/4 lengths in the million-dollar race.

Long shot Free Flying Soul set the early pace and held on for third. The 7 furlongs went in 1:21.66 on the Pro-Ride artificial surface.

Informed Decision, with Julien Leparoux up for trainer Jonathan Sheppard, allowed Free Flying Soul to lead the field until the turn. Then the 4-year-old Monarchos filly surged to the front and none of her competitors could make up the difference.

With Ventura taking most of the action in the win pool, Informed Decision paid $8.80 to win.

It was the second time this year Informed Decision has bested Ventura, reprising the finish in the Madison Stakes at Keeneland this spring. Informed Decision now has eight wins in her last nine starts, the only blemish is a close third-place finish behind Music Note and Indian Blessing in the Balerina at Saratoga.
