VALENCIA, Spain, Nov. 4 (UPI) -- Third-seeded Jo-Wilfried Tsonga of France was among Wednesday's losers at the Valencia Open men's tennis tournament at Valencia, Spain.
Tsonga was trailing 0-3 to Russia's Mikhail Youzhny in the third set when a left wrist injury forced him to retire.
Tsonga won the first set, 7-6 (7-3), while Youzhny won the second, 6-0.
The loss dropped Tsonga 380 points behind No. 8-ranked Fernando Verdasco of Spain in the battle for a berth at next week's season-ending Paribas Masters at Paris.
