Seahawks release Edgerrin James

SEATTLE, Nov. 3 (UPI) -- The Seattle Seahawks said Tuesday they have released running back Edgerrin James.

The move came after Seahawks head coach Jim Mora Jr. reportedly excoriated his team Sunday after its 38-17 loss to the Dallas Cowboys, saying changes would be forthcoming in the wake of a 2-5 start.

James, 31, who signed a one-year deal to be the backup for Julius Jones, had gained just 125 yards on 46 rushes over seven games this season, while catching three passes for 19 yards and lost a fumble.

The Seahawks on Monday released cornerback Travis Fisher, who had five tackles in four games this season. His release preceded those of James and safety C.J. Wallace by a day.

James, an 11-year pro, rushed for just 514 yards and three touchdowns on 133 carries last year for the NFC champion Arizona Cardinals. The University of Miami product has amassed 12,246 rushing yards in his career, and has passed Marcus Allen for 10th place on the all-time NFL rushing list.
