NHL: N.Y. Islanders 3, Edmonton 1

UNIONDALE, N.Y., Nov. 2 (UPI) -- Brendan Witt scored twice in the second period Monday, carrying the New York Islanders to a 3-1 victory over the Edmonton Oilers.

Witt's first goal, assisted by Frans Nielsen, gave the Islanders the lead with a wrist shot at 2:32. He scored again 5 minutes later, from the blue line, with assists from Doug Weight and Jeff Tambellini.

John Tavares got the other goal in the Islanders' fourth straight win.

Ethan Moreau scored for Edmonton, which held the lead for less than 4 minutes in the opening period and ended up losing for the fifth time in six games.

New York goaltender Dwayne Roloson made 22 saves and Edmonton's Nikolai Khabibulin had 34.
